Pre-Tenancy Training

Rush House has designed and delivered a tailored education programme of support called A Place of Your Own (APOYO) for a number of years now.

Originally this was delivered ‘in house’ to all residents of Rush House and continues to do so as part of their agreement to move on into independent living.

By actively involving those who need support in its development, the program addresses real-life challenges and provides practical advice and solutions.

The innovative program encompasses a range of information and tools specifically tailored to empower individuals with the skills and knowledge to not just live, but to thrive and grow.

Aimed at aiding people to develop the essential skills needed to sustain their long term housing solutions, APOYO has helped hundreds of individuals and families.

Pre-tenancy training is ideal for those:

  • looking for their first tenancy
  • who have had a failed tenancy
  • who have a tenancy and are seeking to increase their knowledge
  • leaving the care of a Local Authority

Further development has led us to be able to deliver this programme through our website portal so it can be completed on-line.

The course can be completed anytime, anywhere with internet access, at your own time and pace.

The course has been successfully adopted by Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council as part of its housing registration scheme and is currently free to all people living in Rotherham.

APOYO provides prospective tenants with the skills and knowledge social and private landlords’ desire.

Increased knowledge and confidence can greatly reduce anxiety and stress, improving mental health, well-being, and reducing pressure on other essential services.

Work is currently ongoing to develop a 9th section that will focus on home ownership.
