Group Work and Activities
At Rush, we recognise that every young person is unique and with this in mind, we offer young people a structured timetable of group work that meets their varying needs, supporting them to develop essential skills required for independent living. All young people are encouraged to contribute ideas for future sessions, increasing their confidence and self-esteem.
Money Matters
Sessions to develop knowledge and skills surrounding money management such as budgeting a young person’s income.
Health Matters
Group work that covers all areas of health to support young people with managing emotions, participating in physical activities and planning/preparing for keeping tenancies clean and tidy.
Education & Training Matters
We support every young person to be the best they can be. We offer over 30 AQA units and support to access education and training as well as support with coursework or any other needs whilst in or accessing education.
Food Matters
Designed to increase knowledge in all areas of food and nutrition, including the importance of a balanced diet, using a variety of kitchen equipment safely, learning and understanding cooking terms as well as making smart shopping choices in order to help plan and cook meals on a budget.
To supplement our own group work offer, young people are encouraged to engage with other charities and organisations who visit Rush to deliver their own, valuable sessions. These include art therapy with homeless charity, Crisis, as well as Rotherham United Community Sports Trust who cover a range of topics such as healthy relationships, knife crime, drug and alcohol awareness and healthy eating giving young people the opportunity to work towards and gain their Young Leaders Award.
Evening/Weekend Relaxed Group Work
Although delivering group work aimed at supporting our young people gain and develop life skills needed to live independently is important to us at Rush, we also like to offer a variety of relaxed, fun sessions in order to give our residents the opportunity to socialise with each other and staff. Each evening, our support staff facilitate a wide range of activities such as baking, board games, arts and crafts and karaoke, always with plenty of snacks on offer. Rush has also taken young people on many activity days out including mountain biking, rafting, skating and bowling.
To kick start their weekend, we have the hugely popular and fun Saturday Sizzler group, where young people help with the preparing and cooking of a full cooked breakfast before sitting down together to enjoy whilst listening to music or watching a favourite tele programme. Sunday’s can be spent helping staff prepare and cook the perfect Sunday roast before winding down with a movie.
